New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina, which hit in August of 2005, was one of the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States. The hopelessness of the people in our own country caused an outpouring of teams that desired to show the love, grace and mercy of Christ and His glorious gospel.  Safe Harbor's Action Crisis Teams (ACTs) were fortunate to respond to those affected by this devastating hurricane in New Orleans and the surrounding areas in many ways, as described below:

  • Long-term relief center where teams served meals at a closed down hotel in New Orleans to those that lost their homes, jobs, etc
  • Long-term ministry to the police departments in New Orleans and Bogalusa
  • Teams to clean up debris; repair and rebuild homes
  • Bibles and much needed supplies distributed in Winn Dixie, Piggly Wiggly and Wal-Mart stores’ parking lots
  • Ladies team ministered by cleaning houses and delivering gift baskets

Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. Psalms 96:1-4 ESV
