Sumatra Tsunami

On December 26, 2004 an event occurred that eclipsed every other news story at that time.  The tsunami that struck south Asia was unlike any other catastrophe in recent history; more than 200,000 people perished, 15 million became homeless and disease loomed on the horizon.  The Lord equipped Safe Harbor teams to minister boldly to a nation struck by utter hopelessness with the Hope-filled Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Nias Island:

The Lord led a small team to investigate the possibility of working along with pastors on the Nias Island to begin pastoral training, Bible schools and youth programs.  What began as an assessment turned into a full-blown disaster relief effort as the team arrived just hours after a devastating 8.7 earthquake.

  • Safe Harbor medical and relief teams were flown in from Sumatra, Indonesia to help with the injured and devastated people
  • Ongoing ministry to families affected by the earthquake
Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. Psalms 96:1-4 ESV
