The vision for this project is to reach the agricultural community with the gospel of Jesus Christ; to earn profits that will fund a significant portion of the ministry and hospital; to provide training for the locals; and to provide key services that will benefit the community.
Safe Harbor has embarked upon a agribusiness project that, by God's grace, will provide a variety of benefits to the ministry and local community. SHI joined hands with Engineering Ministries International, who provided 10 experts (civil, structural, environmental, mechanical engineers / architects) to analyze the technical feasibility of agricultural business development. SHI rounded out the team with experts in international development, business analysis, agricultural sciences, and local market researchers.
What was thought of as a 90 acre land gift turned out to be 117 acres of virgin soil that is planned to be utilized for a variety of profitable activities, including: crops, seed production, maize processing, egg production, and fish ponds. Our prayer is that the light of Christ would continue to shine through our words and actions at every point of this project, and that the Lord would guide us towards a thriving ministry at the local level.
We are allocating extensive time towards the planning phase, which includes ecological, community, economic, commodity, and business considerations. Safe Harbor previously purchased oxens and ploughs, and is using smaller maize plots to test a variety of fertilizer treatments while earning revenue from products grown. During this time, we are completing a business study and are building partnerships for project expansion.
Phase 2: Production and ProcessingSafe Harbor will develop the project to eventually reach 100% capacity, which will include maize and soy production, maize processing, egg production, and fish farming. We will monitor productivity and sales with increasing profits allocated towards ministry operating expenses. We will also monitor regional crises and determine if commodities should be allocated towards relief efforts.
We plan to build dormitories and classrooms for the purposes of discipleship, outreach, and education in livelihood development.
We are in the process of outlining investment and operational expenses along with timing requirements. Feel free to contact us and / or check back on our website to view updated information.
